| Mission
At CareinAction.com, our mission is to expand the capacity
of your family to fully support a mentally ill relative while
meeting your own needs for personal stability.
We know that when someone you love became mentally ill, everything
changed. You and your family were suddenly called on
to adapt new ways of relating to each other, and to a whole
system of care which has so often left you with more questions
than answers. You were thrust into challenging new roles,
exposed to a daunting array of confusing information and asked
to practice difficult new skills. And, like many other
caregivers, you may have experienced a sense of invisibility,
a sense that no one understands what you are going through
and too few are there to help.
Recognizing Your Experience
In Arthur Frank's book ‘At the Will of the
Body’, Frank investigates how our society deals
with illnesses, and highlights the ways in which the work
that caregivers do is too often invisible and ignored.
He says: “…as much as the ill person’s
experience is denied, the caregiver’s experience is
denied even more completely.”
At CareInAction.com, we believe that it is past time to recognize
the caregiver's experience - YOUR experience - and we exist
to help you make that experience more manageable, more positive,
and more conscious.
- What is important to us at CareInAction is that
your experience as a caregiver not be denied.
- What is important to us is that you not lose hope in the
possibility of re-creating feelings of joy in your family.
- What is important to us is that you do not doubt your
ability to bring about positive changes.
Support, Inspiration, Strategy and Guidance
We created this site because we know that with the right
information, the right tools, and the sure knowledge that
you are not alone, it is possible for you to find your way.
We know that you have the courage, the strength, and the ability
to take on this journey of care; we are here to assist you
in knowing all those things, too.
We want to encourage each one of you by offering specific
suggestions for coping with your relative's illness.
We want to share with you strategies and tactics you can experiment
with to find out what will work best for you in your unique
circumstances. We want to help you sustain the relationships
that matter most in your life; including your relationship
to yourself. We want to share what we believe this journey
of care can teach us all about the human experience, about
the power we all have to bring peace and to be at peace –
no matter what.

Are you familiar with the words that are carved on
Rumi’s grave? Rumi was a master- poet who
lived in Turkey in the 13th century.
This is what he wrote:
“Come, Come,
Whoever you are,
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, Come,
Whoever you are,
This caravan knows no despair.
Even though you have broken your vow,
Perhaps ten thousand times,
Yet come again, come again, whoever you
are,
Whoever you are,
come ……”
We are forming a long caravan through this website.
We would love for you to join us.
Please come, whoever you are!
